Why vinyl plank flooring suits Gold Coast homes

Queensland's heat, humidity and coastal moisture make waterproofing and dimensional stability essential. Vinyl plank and hybrid flooring are 100% waterproof, won't warp, swell or cup in humidity, and handle the temperature swings of Gold Coast summers without movement. Hybrid's rigid stone-composite core stays flat even over slightly uneven subfloors, while vinyl's softer feel is gentler underfoot — both are ideal for kitchens, living areas and high-traffic zones in coastal homes.

Vinyl plank or hybrid: which suits your home?

Both are fully waterproof and both come in convincing timber looks. The difference is the core. Vinyl plank is a flexible, lower-profile floor that is quieter and softer underfoot and usually the most affordable option. Hybrid has a rigid stone-plastic core that stays flatter over small subfloor imperfections and feels more like timber.

If your slab is in good condition and you want the best value, vinyl plank is hard to beat. If the subfloor has minor undulations, or you want a firmer, more solid feel across a large open-plan area, hybrid is usually the better choice. Our dedicated hybrid flooring page and our hybrid versus vinyl plank guide go into more detail.

    Where vinyl plank works best

Vinyl plank is a favourite for rental properties, kitchens, laundries and living areas that see wet feet and spills. It is quick to install, easy to clean with a damp mop, and forgiving on tired legs. Glue-down vinyl is also a strong option for commercial spaces and high-traffic areas because it stays put under rolling loads.

    • Rentals and investment properties: durable and fast to install between tenants
    • Kitchens, laundries and living areas: waterproof and easy to keep clean
    • Apartments: available with acoustic underlays to meet body corporate by-laws
    • Budget-conscious renovations: timber looks at a lower price than hybrid or timber

    Subfloor preparation makes the difference

Because vinyl plank is thinner and more flexible than hybrid, it shows what is underneath. We check every slab for level before quoting, then grind high spots and fill low spots with levelling compound where needed. That preparation is included in your fixed quote, so there are no surprises on installation day.

Vinyl flooring options: luxury vinyl plank, glue-down and sheet vinyl

Most homes choose click-together luxury vinyl plank (LVP), which floats over a prepared slab and suits living areas, bedrooms and rentals. Glue-down vinyl plank is bonded directly to the subfloor, which makes it very stable under rolling loads, so it is a good fit for commercial spaces, kitchens and high-traffic hallways. Sheet vinyl comes in wide rolls with very few joins and suits clinics, commercial kitchens and wet areas.

As a guide, vinyl plank flooring costs about $55 to $90 per m² supplied and installed on the Gold Coast, depending on the product and how much slab preparation is needed. We are vinyl flooring installers as well as suppliers, so your quote covers the product, preparation and installation in one fixed price.

    Caring for vinyl plank

Vinyl plank is one of the easiest floors to live with. Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove grit, mop with a pH-neutral cleaner, use felt pads under furniture and keep rubber-backed mats off the surface, as some can stain vinyl over time.

    Frequently asked questions

Yes — quality vinyl plank and hybrid flooring are 100% waterproof through the plank itself. Spills, mopping and wet feet from the pool won't damage the surface. Joins are tightly engineered to resist water penetration, making both products ideal for Gold Coast kitchens, laundries and living areas.

Both are waterproof. Hybrid has a rigid stone-composite (SPC) core that's firmer underfoot and more dimensionally stable over uneven subfloors. Standard vinyl plank is more flexible and slightly cheaper. For most Gold Coast homes we recommend vinyl plank — it handles Queensland conditions beautifully at a better price point.

Usually yes — provided the tiles are level, sound and within tolerance. We assess the subfloor at quote stage and advise whether self-levelling compound or removal is required before installation.

Quality vinyl plank and hybrid products come with manufacturer residential warranties (the length depends on the product), and with normal care they last for many years. The waterproof, fade-resistant wear layers handle Queensland sun and humidity without the warping issues older laminate products had.

Yes. We supply and install vinyl plank flooring across the Gold Coast, from Coomera to Tweed Heads. Our mobile showroom brings vinyl plank samples to your home, and the quote includes removal of old floors, subfloor preparation and levelling, and finishing trims. For commercial spaces we also install glue-down vinyl plank and sheet vinyl.

Vinyl plank is a practical choice for Gold Coast rentals because it is waterproof, easy to clean and usually costs less than hybrid. It handles kitchens, laundries and bathrooms, and a hard-wearing wear layer stands up to furniture being moved between tenants.
